Orhan Karsligil's Ideas, Thoughts and Collection of Resources

Welcome

Hi,

This is my first post in my bioinformatics blog. I am planning to write on Systems Biology and Bioinformatics from the eye of a Process Design and Control engineer. My interest areas are extracting information from Genomic data and modeling Biological Systems using standard Chemical Engineering methodologies.

Welcome

This is my first post to my optimization blog. I am planning to add links, ideas and some news on optimization here. I mostly do this for my own benefit but if creates discussion and becomes useful I would be really happy.

Welcome

THis is my first post to my Process Control Blog. I am planning to keep this as a think-tank for process control related ideas, news and links. I hope someone other then me finds it useful.

Magnatune- Music to my ears

I like listening to good music. Classical, Jazz or New Age. Couple months ago I discovered Magnatune You can listen as mush as you want and for less than $1 a song you can download the whole album. They do not have the most famous artist, but what they have is very interesting and high quality. Magnatune is now a permanent tab in my browser.

France Visit

Two weeks ago I was in France for a touristic trip. I spent 4-5 days in Paris and took many pictures. Of course I also visited Louvre Museum and being there took the picture of the inverted pyramid underneath the big glass pyramid. If you read the Da Vinci Code, you would know what I am talking about.
By the way now they have Da Vinci Tours at Louvre. Apparantly they were reluctant first but once they figured out that many people would pay to have a tour to see the art pieces mentioned in Dan Brown's book they created and advertised the tour.

Testing the email Posting

This is a test post through email. I am currently copying some pictures

to my server to add to my posts later. Two posts in the first day should

be fine. If this email post works as I think it works then I will be

very pleased.

Welcome to me!

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and is kind of a test. I am planning to host it on my server in the future, so I want to find out how things work. I have a wide variety of interests and plan to write about them. This blog should serve as a task list and a results/conclusions collection for my ideas and things I read and hear.

I hope I can write at least once everyday. I am not targeting this to any audience, it is basically me thinking loud. If anyone hears it and likes it (or does not) I would be interested to get their opinion and critique.

Thanks,

Objective:
Using known antimicrobial peptides from Nebraska Database extract motifs that can be used to create new active peptides with desired properties.

Technologies and Methodologies Used:
Motif Discovery
Scoring Algorithms
Clustering Algorithms
Cleanup Algorithms
Tiling Algorithms
Design Algorithms

Status Update:
After the 4th phase of design we managed to create a robust and rigorous enough algorithm that can generate consistently active peptides.
